Tip: This calculator uses the common unweighted 4.0 scale (A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D=1.0, F=0.0). Honors or AP weights vary by school — check your own scale. See the GPA guide for details.

Worked example

Say you took three courses last term:

CourseGradePointsCreditsWeighted points
BiologyB+3.3413.2
EnglishA-3.7311.1
MathB3.039.0

Total weighted points = 13.2 + 11.1 + 9.0 = 33.3. Total credits = 10. GPA = 33.3 ÷ 10 = 3.33.

GPA questions, answered

What is a good GPA?

At most US colleges, a 3.0 is average, a 3.5+ is strong, and a 3.7+ puts you in honours territory at most schools. It depends on your goal — see the 4.0 plan if you’re aiming higher.

Is this weighted or unweighted?

This calculator uses the standard unweighted 4.0 scale. If you take AP, IB or Honors courses, use the weighted GPA calculator instead.
