How to Calculate Your GPA
A GPA (Grade Point Average) is a single number that summarises how well you did across your courses, weighted by how many credits each course is worth. Here is the method that works for most schools using the 4.0 scale.

Most US schools use this table:
| Letter | Points |
|---|---|
| A (A+ / A) | 4.0 |
| A- | 3.7 |
| B+ | 3.3 |
| B | 3.0 |
| B- | 2.7 |
| C+ | 2.3 |
| C | 2.0 |
| C- | 1.7 |
| D | 1.0 |
| F | 0.0 |
Step 2: Multiply points by credits
For each course, multiply the grade points by the credit hours. A 3-credit A (4.0) gives you 12 grade points.
Step 3: Add everything up and divide
Sum all grade points, sum all credits, then divide. The result is your GPA.
Worked example: Biology 3 credits, A (4.0) → 12 points. English 4 credits, B (3.0) → 12 points. Math 3 credits, B+ (3.3) → 9.9 points. Total points 33.9, total credits 10 → GPA 3.39.
