How to Calculate GPA from Percentages
Your class grades usually start as percentages. To turn them into a GPA, convert each percentage to a letter grade (and its grade points), then average by credit hours.

A common US scale — note that your school may use different cutoffs:
- 93–100 = A (4.0) · 90–92 = A- (3.7)
- 87–89 = B+ (3.3) · 83–86 = B (3.0) · 80–82 = B- (2.7)
- 77–79 = C+ (2.3) · 73–76 = C (2.0) · 70–72 = C- (1.7)
- 60–69 = D (1.0) · below 60 = F (0.0)
2. Weight by credit hours
Multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits.
Example: A (4.0) in a 3-credit course and B (3.0) in a 4-credit course = (4.0×3 + 3.0×4) ÷ 7 = 24 ÷ 7 = 3.43 GPA.
3. Watch your school’s scale
Cutoffs vary — some schools use 90+ for an A, others require 94+. Always use the scale your school prints on its syllabus.
Do it automatically with the percentage calculator, convert a single grade with the grade converter, or see the letter-to-percentage guide for the reverse direction.
